Samantha Chic: Music // "Safe and Sound" by Capital Cities

Music // "Safe and Sound" by Capital Cities

This song has been out for several months now, but I’ve just recently started hearing it more often on XM radio.

The music and beats are pretty straightforward and simple, but when combined together create an upbeat tempo that makes you want to bounce around.

However, when you listen to the lyrics (“You could be my luck/Even if we’re six feet underground/I know that we’ll be safe and sound”) you realize this isn’t just another pop-y alt song.

There’s something sincere. You almost believe that even if something happens, we’ll be safe and sound.

Then, let’s talk about that video. This might be one of the few videos ever to not include the band or anything directly related to the song but still work.

The juxtaposition of the happy dancing people followed up by nuclear bombs going off speaks to this idea that even though this is an upbeat song, it’s really addressing deeper feelings.

What do you think of this song? Tell me in the comments below.
