Samantha Chic: Unboxing // May 2014 Stitch Fix review

Unboxing // May 2014 Stitch Fix review

I've actually known about Stitch Fix for a while and had filled out my profile, but hadn't scheduled my "fix" until a few weeks ago. Needless to say, I'm hooked. Call it the Birchbox effect, but I love getting monthly packages with surprises.

For $20, Stitch Fix sends a box of five items based on your profile, sizes, price range, and interests. You get three days to try on and either keep what you want or send them back.

The $20 fee goes toward your purchase, but if you buy all five items you get a 25% discount as well. If you don't keep any items, you still have to pay the $20 fee. You can do it monthly or schedule dates on your own.

Here's what I got in my first box. The pieces ranged from $32 to $128 each for a total of $340. After the styling fee and 25% discount, the whole box could be purchased for $240.

Tell me what you think about Stitch Fix in the comments below.

Ezra Mame Eyelet Embroidery Detail Stripe Top $48 | STATUS: Sent back

I really liked the details on this top, which hit a lot of trends -- crochet, peak-a-boo and (not pictured) buttons down the back.

As you can see, it was versatile, too, and could easily be dressed up or down.

However, the size was off. It was a little tight across my chest and the arm & neck holes were a little too high making them feel restricting.

Renee C Loren Striped French Terry Pencil Skirt $44 | STATUS: Sent back

This skirt fit well and I felt very Parisian in it; however, the material wasn't the most forgiving in the world and show every bump, line and bunched up material underneath.

Also the length was great on me. If I pulled it down to my natural waist, it cut across my calves making my legs look short.

Kut from the Kloth Finley Distressed Skinny Jean $88 | STATUS: Kept

I almost didn't both to try these on because just the week before I ordered a pair from H&M and they didn't make it half-way up.

It's so hard to find a good pair of jeans that fit you perfectly, which is why it was a miracle that these actually fit well!

They're a little long (which is apparently a common comment on this brand), but I think cuffing them still looks good.

Tart Nora Feather Print Jersey Dress $128 | STATUS: Sent back

I love, love, love me a good dress. I wear dresses constantly and I liked this one a lot.

It fit well, the jersey material was light, but still had good coverage, the print was super cute and could have mixed & matched well with other colors and items.

However, I just couldn't justify paying $128 for a dress. It just wasn't happening.

Pomelo Piedmont Metal Rope Design Bangle Set $32 | STATUS: Kept

I don't wear a whole lot of jewelry -- mostly because I never remember to put it on. However, I really liked this bangle set.

The slight mixed metal was enough you could incorporate other silver or gold jewelry without looking tacky.

It fit well and stood out on it's own while still complementing a lot of items I already owned.
