Samantha Chic: Unboxing // May 2014 Birchbox review

Unboxing // May 2014 Birchbox review

I always look forward to my monthly Birchbox, but I gotta say, based on my own experience and what I've read on social media, this month was plagued with shipping & communication issues.

If you're new to Birchbox, it's an online monthly subscription box that sends you 4 to 5 samples of beauty, hair, skin, and lifestyle products based on your profile questionnaire.

It costs $10 a month and includes hundreds of different brands -- both well known and up-and-coming.

Here's a round-up of what I received...

Caldrea Body Wash & Body Lotion | Full-size $18-$22
Full of good-for-you ingredients, this botanical duo cleanses, hydrates, and softens skin. Apply wash to damp skin and rinse. After drying off, massage lotion into skin.

Marcelle New-Age 8 in 1 Power Serum | Full-size $34
This peptide-packed antiaging gel hydrates, firms, lifts, and plumps fine lines. Once a day, smooth over clean face and neck. You'll see results in just one week of use.

Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm  | Full-size $8
Dual-purpose balm that hydrates with shea butter while giving lips a pretty wash of color. Swipe onto lips for instant moisture. Wear alone or layered under lipstick.

Supergoop Everyday SPF 30 with Cellular Response Technology | Full-size $19
This lightweight cream provides water-resistant, SPF 30+ protection anywhere you need it. Apply a shot glass-sized amount to face and body 30 minutes before stepping outside.

Votivo Candle | Full-size $12-$26
This springtime candle wafts an earthy scent of prairie grass, blueberries, and hyacinth. Light the wick and breath in the garden-inspired fragrance. Perfect for traveling!

Some background...
I've been with Birchbox since Sept. 2012 and haven't had too many issues. Last month, I got a defective shipping number, but they emailed me within 48 hours to notify me and send the correct one.

This month I got notice that my box shipped on May 10, but didn't receive it until yesterday on May 22. It typically only takes 4 to 5 days in the past. Also, the tracking number didn't provide any updates only to say it was "born" on May 10 and "in transit."

A couple people said on social media they received notifications about shipping delays, tracking number issues and compensation points. I did get any other notifications, so I'm not sure what was up.

I had emailed customer service last week to get an update and their tracking information was down. I emailed them again yesterday to say I did receive, but would have appreciated updates. A customer service rep apologized and provided 100 points.

Normally, I try not to be too anxious, but I've had packages go missing in the past and was really, really, really (I mean really!) excited that they teamed up with Kate Spade Saturday this month.

Kate Spade is my girl, after all!
