Fresh Finds: Sole Serum

What it is: Sole Serum

What they say: With a blend of natural and active ingredients, your feet will be free of pain for up to two hours per use. The power of lidocaine not only blocks the foot's pain signals from reaching the brain, but also helps to reduce inflammation.

How to use: Apply two pumps of Sole Serum where your feet feel pain, then treat yourself to a tiny foot massage. Wait 60 seconds for your feet to dry. Slip your shoes back on and wash your hands. In 10 minutes, you will feel like you're walking on clouds again.

What I think: It just so happens that the day I found out about Sole Serum, I was wearing a brand new pair of heels that caused me a good bit of pain. So, needless to say my interest was piqued, but I was skeptical.

The main active ingredient is lidocaine, which many of us know is a numbing agent used in most doctors' offices. Sole Serum contains 4% lidocaine, so I did a little research. Lidocaine is prescribed outside of the office, typically at a weakened amount of 5% or less.

To test it out, I used Sole Serum several times while wearing a number of heels and wedges. However, I only applied to one foot at a time to see if I could tell a difference.

Immediately, the natural oils of tea tree, peppermint and lavender provided a nice pick-me-up.

After drying, the serum doesn't seem to soak in completely, but instead helped create a barrier between my foot and the shoe so there was less rubbing and pinching -- an added bonus.

After a few minutes, I noticed my foot felt a little tingly (sort of like when it falls asleep slightly), but overall the foot with the serum was easier to stand on than the one without.

The downside -- it wore off  after about an hour and a half. When I didn't reapply, the foot that had the serum almost felt slightly worse off than the one that didn't have the serum. My guess is that this sense was heightened and when applied to both it's not nearly as noticeable.

Overall, I'm not sure it's something I'd use everyday, but I'm definitely keeping in my bag for big events.

Buy it online: Sole Serum $29.50 for 25 mL bottle
