Good Reads: "The One & Only" by Emily Giffin
Welcome to Samantha Chic Book Club! I'll be posting book reviews on the 3rd Tuesday of every month and hope you'll join me in discussion in the comments below.
September: "The One & Only" by Emily Giffin
This is actually the first book I've read by Emily Giffin, which actually came in my June POPSUGAR Must Have box. I know she writes a lot of books, and they're typically recommended to me based on my readings interests, but I never picked one up.
I had seen the movie version of "Something Borrowed" and didn't like it at all (I actually struggled to finish it), so I had no interest.
However, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I liked this book.
I really enjoyed Emily's writing style and voice -- it was consistent and flowed, much like an everyday conversation.
The plot was highly predictable (at least to me), but the little details and nuances about football made it interesting. She either really loves the game or did her homework.
The book was a little long for my tastes. There's a lot of back-story and building in the beginning, which I felt could have been edited, not only for length, but also so the plot points would be less predictable.
Overall though, I enjoyed the book and found myself looking forward to reading each night. I might just have to try another Emily Giffin book now...
