Ask Samantha Chic: What to wear to a winter wedding?

Hey there Afton,

Thanks so much for your question. Weddings are always a great time, but a winter wedding -- especially if you live in a cold climate -- can be tough to plan for. The key is to find that balance between warmth & style.

Here's some tips & tricks to get you started...

Dresses are a wedding staple and a long sleeved version will keep you warm, but polished. Steer clear of white, of course -- even winter white. Add interest with rich jewel tones, berry hues or different textures, such as lace or velvet. P.S. All the styles below are $150 or less!

Keep your legs covered and warm (and don't worry about stubble or razor burn showing) with a pair of patterned tights. Opaque tights work if you're wearing an intricate dress, but a pair of patterned tights can add some interest to an otherwise solid outfit.

If you're feeling bold and want to try something different, the jumpsuit is a trend that's still going strong and allows you to dress up without wearing a dress. Most style I found were in black or navy, which lends a "black tie" air to the outfit. Wear it minimal with heels and a clutch, or add a bold belt and statement necklace for a fun approach.

Last but certainly not least is outerwear. Winter coats are the obvious choice, but they can be bulky and muss up your clothes while in transition. So you could wear a coat, or you could wear a cape. Capes are very on trend for this Fall & Winter and let you show off your outfit while keeping warm.

Those are my tips & tricks for Winter weddings. Tell me your favorite style ideas in the comments below.
