This is Part 1 in a three part weekly series.
Late last year, I won a bottle of TONI&GUY's Casual Sea Salt Texturizing Spray from Birchbox (if you're not already a member, sign up here) for hair tutorials.
One of the biggest questions I get asked is how do I keep my hair healthy while growing it out (I've donated to Locks of Love twice in 4 years) and coloring it regularly.
First, I always use super hydrating and conditioning products. Secondly, I minimize damage by making one style work for several days.
So in this series, I'll show you how to get three separate looks from one day of styling.
First up: loose beachy waves!
My favorite shampoos are Garnier Hydra Recharge (full review here) for everyday use and the Pure Clean (full review here) when I need a deep cleansing. Right now for conditioner, I'm trying out Aussie's 3 Minute Miracle, but I also really love this Amika hydrating mask in the past.
As soon as I get out of the shower, I towel dry and apply a two to three pumps of Moroccanoil Treatment (full review here). When I say this product changed my life, I mean it. I've used it almost a decade now and it seriously keeps my hair healthy.
I shower at night so I can let my hair air dry. I lose some volume because I'm not blow drying and I'm sleeping on my hair. But, it's one less heat tool you're subjecting your hair to.
Step One: For this look, I like to curl with a flat iron. It provides a looser curl that looks more natural.
Separate your hair portions and work from the bottom up. The key is to curl away from your face.
Clamp the iron on a one inch portion of hair, wrap it once or twice, then pull straight through without stopping.
Step Two: Once you've curled your whole head. Give it a minute or two to cool down.
Then liberally spray on the TONI&GUY's Casual Sea Salt Texturizing Spray from mid-length down.
The formula in this product is great because you can spray a lot and still get soft, touchable hair. No crunchy waves here!
Step Three: Really work the product into your hair -- scrunch it, finger comb it, flip your head upside down.
The goal is to get loose, natural looking hair like you just got out of the ocean and let it air dry.
If you have to, you can go back in and touch up a few spots, but it's not necessary. You'll see in mine that some areas are straighter than others -- it's all part of the look.
And you're finished! What do you think? Tell me in the comments below & stay tuned for day two hair next Wednesday.
Disclosure: The TONI&GUY product used in this post was received free of charge from Birchbox. All other products were purchased by me. All views are my own.
