What it is: Venus Swirl Razors for Women with Flexball

What they say: Our best contouring women’s razor helps capture what other razors may miss. The Gillette Venus Swirl is designed with our revolutionary FLEXIBALL and 5 individually adjusting Contour blades. It contours over curves for flawless skin, long-lasting smoothness and virtually no missed hairs.

What I think: I've been using Venus razors for as long as I can remember, and have been a devoted fan of the Venus Embrace for many, many years now. Which is why it pains so much to write this review, but I've got to say... I HATED the Venus Swirl!

As far as I'm concerned, this razor is one big marketing ploy to get your money. It added nothing new to my shaving routine, didn't give me better results, and in fact added more time to my routine because I was so frustrated with it.

In all honesty, I only used this razor 3 times before I chucked it out of the shower because I was so frustrated.

First off, the blades... I read somewhere else that the 5 blades are curved slightly to give a closer shave, but I didn't see or feel any difference between these blades and the Embrace blades.

Secondly, that Flexiball... My understanding from seeing the commercials and reading reviews was that it allowed the head to rotate in all directions and hug your curves so that you don't miss a single hair.

Nope! It pivots ever so slightly (blink and you miss it) from side to side. If you're shaving in a straight line from ankle to knee, as I do, I don't know why you'd want your razor to pivot from side to side.

And it takes a lot of effort to get it to pivot. No matter how I changed my shaving pattern it never pivoted unless I picked it up and manually pivoted it with my hands, which is absolutely worthless when shaving.

Lastly, the handle... it's slightly larger and has more smooth plastic on it than the Embrace, which features several spots that have ribbed rubber grips. This handle was so smooth that it flung out of my hand several times and I had to grip it so hard to not lose it in the shower my hand actually started to hurt.

Maybe if I didn't shave in the shower, but just wet my leg or something it might be easier. But I shave in the shower. That's what's most convenient to me. And I can't have 5 razor blades flying out of my hand ever time I try to shave.

Overall, I was highly disappointed with this razor. Just using it the 3 times to write this review was more hassle than it was worth. I'm baffled by all the glowing reviews I'm seeing for this razor, so if I'm doing something wrong, please let me know in the comments.

For the first time in my life, I think I'm actually going to take a company up on their "love it or your money back" gaurantee. I'll keep you updated on how that goes.
