What it is: Comodynes Intensive & Uniform Color Self-Tanning Towelettes
What they say: The new intensive self-tanning towelette provides a deeper, long-lasting tan in just 3 hours. It naturally and evenly tans the face, neck and neckline, safely and cleanly. The resulting tone is equivalent to applying 2 Self-Tanning Original towelettes on consecutive days.
How to use: Apply evenly to clean, dry skin. Wash your hands after application. One towelette is the perfect size for the face, neck and neckline.
What I think: I'm super pale most days (as witnessed in this blog post) and my skin tends to tan unevenly. One arm is always darker than the other from making the 3-hour trip back to my parent's house.
Now that I work in healthcare though, I can't justify getting a tan from the sun. I've never laid in a tanning bed (and you shouldn't either: just one session can increase your risk of melanoma by 20%), but I remember many times where I wasn't as generous in the sunscreen application (or skipped it altogether) in the name of glowing skin.
So, I've made it my mission this summer to finally master the faux glow! If you follow me on Snapchat (@samanthacossick) you've seen some BTS posts.
First up, I tried Comodynes Intensive & Uniform Color Self-Tanning Towelettes. These handy towelettes come in single-use packages making them easy to use with minimal mess.
One of the things that surprised me about these towelettes is that they're completely plain white - no color to be seen. Other products I've been trying out I notice tend to have a color guard so you can see where it's being applied.
Because of this though, there was nothing to rinse off at the end of the 3 hours. So you could literally, wipe on, wait 10 minutes to dry, dress and go.
That being said, these were easy to wipe on and apply, but you really need to pay attention to where you're apply it. It was really hard to see if I missed any parts and it turned out that I did - but it wasn't super noticeable.
Which brings me to my second point, the color was a little disappointing. These towelettes give you more of a faux glow than a tan. My skin was noticeable darker (though it was more noticeable in person than in the picture), but it wasn't like a fresh from vacation tan look.
But the color lasted longer than expected. The directions state to reapply ever 3-4 days, but I've been rocking my glow for 4 days now and I haven't noticed it fading yet. It also hasn't transferred to any of my clothes.
Lastly, I don't know who's using one towelette to cover their whole body, but I definitely needed two - or at least would have felt better about the coverage with two. If I could have seen where I was applying, I might have been able to get away with one.
Overall, I have mixed feelings about the tanning towelettes. I don't think I'll use them for my everyday faux glow, but I'll definitely be keeping them around for those times when one arm gets darker than the other, or I have tan lines that need filled in, or I'm traveling & want to maintain my glow without the mess.
Please remember that having a faux glow doesn't mean you can't burn. Self-tanner does not contain sunscreen and is not a substitute for sun protection, so you still need to put on SPF 30 or higher.
