Beauty // Nosh Detox Original Juice Fast

What it is: Nosh Detox Original Juice Fast

What they say: Four delicious all fruit juices a day is the only thing you need to have the perfect hour-glass figure! Our clients have shown over the years that the 6-day juice fast program is “one of the healthiest and safest ways to achieve steady weight loss on the market today."

How to use:  The juice diet program requires you to drink over 2 liters of freshly-prepared juices every day for up to 6 days. Each juice is rich in antioxidants and assists your body to detox naturally. This, in turn, speeds up the process of regeneration and rejuvenation.

What I think: Ok, ok... I know what you're thinking: How is a juice fast a beauty post? Well, one of the benefits is clearer, more radiant looking skin.

I work in healthcare as my day job so I know that what you eat and how you treat your body is reflected on how you look on the outside. That being said, I've never said no to pizza, chocolate, popcorn, coffee, etc.

So when Nosh Detox approached me about trying out their 3-day juice fast, I was equal parts intrigued and nervous. I took the plunge and said yes!

PRE-DETOX: The night before I started my detox the juices arrived at my doorstep packed in an insulated cooler with ice packs.

DAY ONE: I started my detox on a Friday, which meant I still had to go to work. Each morning starts with a Lemon & Ginger Tonic. This was one of the hardest parts because I hate lemon. The first day, I thought I had shaken it up enough only to be met with a big gulp of lemon and ginger at the end.

Throughout the rest of the day I drank four blended juices at different intervals. Majority of the juices tasted amazingly fresh! I was surprised at how my body never felt hungry all day even though I wasn’t technically "eating."

In addition to the juices, Nosh recommends you drink three liters of water day. This wasn't an issue for me because I already drink 2-3 liters a day. However, increased liquid intake between the juice AND the water, meant increased bathroom trips.
  • 8:30 a.m. The Healer: Lemon & Ginger Tonic
  • 11:30 a.m. The Rehydrator: passion fruit, strawberry, orange, parsley, and flaxseed for Omega 3, 6 and protein.
  • 1:30 p.m. The Eliminator: acai powder, mango, pear, grapes, and lemon.
  • 4:30 p.m. The Healer: green synergy powder, mango, apple, pineapple, and mint.
  • 8 p.m. The Rejuvenator: goji berries, mango, pineapple, banana, and peach.
DAY TWO: Again, I was surprised that I woke up and didn't feel hungry. I went about my Saturday doing some cleaning, went for a walk, and then came back to relax.

The biggest thing about doing a detox for me was the mental aspect. I kept panicking that I hadn't eaten yet, but then realized I wasn't physically hungry.

By Saturday night though, I did start to feel physically hungry and was craving everything. I had a momentary lapse in judgment, ate a small teaspoon of peanut butter then felt guilty and drank a lot of water before going to sleep.

  • 4:30 p.m. The Healer: green synergy powder, green leaves, apple, and kiwi.
  • 8 p.m. The Rejuvenator: banana, mixed berry, mandarin, lemon and goji berries.
DAY THREE: The last day was by far the hardest for me. I woke up hungry and felt hungry ALL. DAY. LONG. No amount of juice satisfied me and this made me grumpy all day as well. I wanted to give it up, but powered through.

I ended up just laying around the house watching Netflix and going to bed early.

POST-DETOX: After detoxing, Nosh encourages you to follow a healthy diet to increase the benefits. This includes no dairy or gluten, fruit in the morning, salads or raw vegetables with protein at lunch, and no raw food after 4 p.m.

Probably the biggest benefit of my juice detox is that I realized how much of nourishing our body is mental. So much time is spent on meal planning, shopping, cooking, etc. But your body can still be nourished and satisfied just consuming juice.

That being said though, I also realized food is something that brings me joy. I've never considered myself a foodie and my cooking skills (or lack thereof) are nothing to envy, but life is short. It's to indulge every so often and not feel guilty about what you eat.

In terms of my health, I didn't notice any major changes. Prior to doing the juice fast, I had been bloated (not sure why) and majority of that went away, which was good. I lost 4 lbs. detoxing, but since Monday I've gained back 2 lbs. even while following their suggested diet.

As far as my skin, I had been breaking out more than usual prior to the detox. While detoxing, I didn't notice any differences. After the detox, my skin started breaking out even more. It's been inflamed all week and is just now is starting to go down. This could easily just be a byproduct of flushing out toxins.

In emailing with Nosh Detox this week they offered some more insight into how your body responds to a detox:

I'm glad you gave it a try and enjoyed the drinks! A detox is definitely not meant to be a "one-time fix" but a lifestyle of constantly resetting and re-balancing your system. Think of it as aiding your body's natural cleansing system which it does through your kidneys, liver and lymph nodes.

You are a trooper!! I think you would notice a bigger difference if you make it a regular routine, every month or so.

I can definitely get behind the need to re-balance your system. I'm glad I did the juice fast and, overall, it was a mostly positive experience.

That being said though, I'm not sure if it's something I'd want to do every month or so. Maybe if it was only two days, but right now I'll focus on diet tweaks and increasing exercise to keep my body healthy.

What do you think? Have you tried a juice cleanse before? Are you thinking of one & have questions? Tell me your experience or ask me any questions in the comments below & I'll answer!
