Shirt: New York & Co. // Skirt: H&M (past season)
Booties: Target (past season) // Necklace: Target
Many people think of the white button down shirt as boring, but in actuality it's quite the closet staple. It lends a crisp air of authority to office outfits, but can sharpen up any casual-cool outfit as well.
You can button it all the way up for the office, or unbutton a few and untuck it with jeans and loafers for a weekend look.
Previously, I wore it under a dress to transition to a Fall work outfit (see here), and today I'm wearing it tucked into a leather skirt to edge it up a bit.
The skirt, however, is faux leather from H&M, and while I love the circle shape and length of it, you can see that it does wrinkle and crease when you sit and move around.
This is one of those instances where investing in the real deal might be worth it. But I bought this skirt on a budget just to try out the trend.
I decided to anchor the whole look with brown accessories, which I know many of you may be shaking your head. Brown & black together? The horror! But I truly believe all neutral colors (black, brown, navy, white, cream) can be mixed and matched together.
The brown belt and straps on the boots is a stark contrast to the black and white so it breaks up the look visually and gives it the sense that you aren't trying too hard.
Lastly, I finished the look with a fun statement necklace from Target.
What do you think? How do you transition to Fall? Would you wear brown and black together? Tell me in the comments below!
