Samantha Chic: Beauty // Skyn Iceland Icelandic Relief Eye Pen

Beauty // Skyn Iceland Icelandic Relief Eye Pen

What it is: Skyn Iceland Icelandic Relief Eye Pen

What they say: Icelandic Relief Eye Cream, newly re-formulated with a breakthrough arctic botanical, Saponaria Pumila, is now a powerful triple-threat to eyes' most agonizing issues -- puffiness, dark circles and wrinkles. Icelandic Relief is more effective than ever at diminishing the symptoms of chronic stress around the eyes.

How to use: Morning or evening, dab cream gently on under eye area (and eyelids!). A slight cooling sensation is normal.

What I think: I’m pretty sure every time I’ve written a concealer review, I’ve mentioned that I struggle with dark circles because of allergies and a lack of sleep. So it should come as no surprise that I regularly keep eye cream in my beauty arsenal.

I’ve tried a few but have yet to land on one that I really, really like yet. When I purchased the Skyn Iceland Saving Face kit from Birchbox earlier this year, I was excited to see that it also included an eye cream.

What’s neat about this version is instead of coming in a tube or a pump container, it comes in a pen form. You rotate the bottom of the pen a few clicks and the product is dispensed through the tip, which means you can do hands free application.

The product itself is creamy, but not so much so that it doesn’t sink into your skin. Like other Skyn Iceland products, it does have a slight cooling sensation upon application, which feels refreshing in this case.

Shortly after applying (probably like 15 minutes or so), my eyes did start to look and feel not quite as puffy or dark, and concealer went on smoothly over the area.

My only gripe about the product is the pen itself, which didn’t allow for the smoothest of applications.

The cream comes out of the very center of the angled tip, which appears to be some sort of silicon or plastic. While the cream glides on smoothly, the areas of the tip where the cream hasn’t reached yet can tug on your skin.

Additionally, I found the tip a little too big to get into the inner corner area or directly under the bottom lid. I ended up usually starting with the pen and then using my ring finger to finish smoothing and patting it all along my eye.

Pen troubles aside though, the product actually worked pretty well on my dark circles and puffiness. If there’s a way to improve application, then I’ll probably be on-board with this eye cream.

What do you think? Have you tried this before -- tell me in the comments below.
